Hundreds of people took to Union Square as part of the "Million Hoodie March" to protest the death of Trayvon Martin, 17, a Florida teen who was shot and killed by George Zimmerman, 28, a neighborhood watch captain. Zimmerman had called police to report Martin as a suspicious person then proceeded to follow Martin and engage him against the 911 dispatcher's advice and assurance that police were on their way. Zimmerman claims he then shot Martin in self-defence. Police confirmed that the only items in Martin's possesion at the time were a bag of Skittles candy and a bottle of Iced Tea.
